Since the release of Oath, we have been overwhelmed by the response of players who have made the game their own. These two new expansions widen the possibilities of every chronicle while offering you new tools to transform the game in meaningful ways. We want every chronicle produced by a game of Oath to be as unique as the players making it.

DEVELOPING YOUR LINEAGE

With the Lineage system, players can alter the privileges and responsibilities of their descendants. Each game, players are offered a quest which, if completed, will give their family an important advantage in future games. By revealing ancient secrets to a forest sprite, your child might gain a deeper affinity with the woodland. By securing a fortune in one game, you could guarantee that your progeny will enjoy the luxuries you lacked.

But these traits are not permanent. Every lineage comes with some strings attached. If your future generations do not spend the time to maintain the gifts of their birth, their inheritance might be lost forever. During a game of Oath, players must weigh their own political ambitions against their responsibilities to their own family's past and future.

GOVERNING AND FACING THE LOOMING THREAT

Empires are as different as the people who built them. Players can now craft vast states in their own image. At the start of each game, the Chancellor now resolves a Govern phase. In this phase, they draw from a bag filled with beautiful deluxe tiles, representing the talents and capacities of their empire. Some empires will excel at constructing vast edifices, while others will strive to secure economic stability or police their borders against invaders from afar.

Critically, these imperial skills are passed from Chancellor to Chancellor as long as the empire stands. So, established kingdoms will have greater capacity to act in the world, while new kingdoms will need to gradually establish themselves over many generations.

But new threats loom on the edge of the world. While even the wisest Chancellor will be tempted to ignore them, hoping to enrich their own legacy, this is a dangerous gamble. If these threats are left alone for long enough, the political order itself might collapse, warping the very landscape of the game.

SHAPING THE FOUNDATIONS OF OATH

Change the Foundations of the game with a fully revamped Chronicle phase. While the winner will be responsible for governing the empire, the most important task is reserved for the holder of the Darkest Secret. This player will draw cards from the new Foundations deck and choose which rules of the game they wish to change. They might shatter the Grand Scepter, removing the concept of citizenship, or allow Exiles to maintain rule over their sites from game to game. They can also alter the nature of the game’s victory conditions and other core systems such as combat.

These systems do not make Oath more complex. Instead, they allow players to alter the game in ways that resonate with their own ambitions and tastes.

A NEW WAY TO PLAY SOLO

Explore a brand-new, fully-featured solo mode that adapts to you as you play it. Face a wide range of adversaries that will follow you from generation to generation as you attempt to guide the course of history.

This mod is designed by Ricky Royal and Liz Davidson. Ricky’s award-winning work includes the solitaire modes for John Company, Pax Pamir, Guilds of London, and the design of Renegade. Liz Davidson is best known for the upcoming game Night Witches (designed with David Thompson) and the Beyond Solitaire podcast.

MORE CARDS AND COMPONENTS

With your pledge, you get two more free products: First, a new Denizen Deck with over 50 unique denizen cards, which you can use to seed a new chronicle or add to the archive of an existing chronicle. Second, the Deluxe Components Pack II, which includes bandit markers for unruled sites, extra dice, and resin "5X" secrets.

In 2021, Leder Games released Oath: Chronicles of Empire & Exile. There had never been a campaign game quite like it. Oath was a strategy game that remembered how it was played. Without prewritten narratives or fancy apps, players could tell generational stories of ambition and intrigue. If you won a game by destroying the world, your descendants would have to sift through the wreckage of the past. In the years since its release, players around the world have defined their own legacies and took their chronicles to places that we had scarcely imagined.
