Fireball Island: The Curse of Vul-Kar is a restoration of the classic 1986 game that features a unique 3D island and a host of marble mayhem. This new version boasts an island that is even bigger than the original (and yet fits in a smaller box) and more marbles. Simple card play replaces the random roll-and-move of the original, and the set collection for the treasures offers some interesting choices for players.
Remember, you don't have to outrun the fireball — just the other players.
Welcome to Fireball Island! You may have heard stories. You may have visited when you were younger. Perhaps you even saw a fireball engulf a fellow traveler in a hellscape of horror that makes you afraid to close your eyes at night. Whatever the case, welcome back! Turns out that Vul-Kar didn't like having his gem stolen way back when, so there has been some volcanic upheaval, an explosion in our snake population, feral tigers, new types of trees bent on ending human life, and swarms of bees everywhere. But don't worry — we have top people working on it.
Start your day of adventure at the helipad. Be sure to sign the waiver, which legally obligates you to take snapshots across the island. You'll race down the many paths, avoiding hazards all the while. On the plus side, you get to keep all the treasure you find.
TREASURE TROVE (KS STRETCH GOALS)
This expansion to Fireball Island: The Curse of Vul-Kar is a collection of cards unlocked via stretch goals during the Kickstarter campaign.
Treasure Trove includes more souvenir cards to shuffle into the souvenir deck, legendary artifact cards for you to discover, and injury cards which give you a choice to take a random disadvantage rather than give up a treasure when hit by a fireball.
These cards won't be in the retail game which is what is being shipped to backers so they will come as an extra package. The publisher has said that they will be selling it only through their web store, conventions, and maybe the BGG store.
XP1: THE LAST ADVENTURER
The last adventurer has been stranded on Fireball Island a long time. He knows every cave, every path, every snake hole, fire pit, and bug. He has a thing or two to teach the rookies. The Last Adventurer figure to increase player count to 5!
The Last Adventurer expansion pack includes:
- New souvenirs!
- Player powers so that all players can survive more easily on the island!
- Snakes (small marbles) that sleep on the rocks and attack the unaware!
- A giant boulder that will crash down the island, knocking over all in its path!
XP2: WRECK OF THE CRIMSON CUTLASS
Long ago, a pirate ship crashed on the shores of Fireball Island. During your visit, you can stumble upon it through one of the many caves. Gather the pirates' treasure, but watch out for cannonballs that seem to be fired by apparitions of the long-dead buccaneers.
Wreck of the Crimson Cutlass introduces a new play area to Fireball Island: The Curse of Vul-Kar. The ship features new treasures to collect and introduces new action cards with more of a take-that feel. On the ship, you'll face two new threats. The crow's nest collect marbles until it suddenly tips over, spilling them all over the deck of the ship. The jolly roger in the bow launches a single marble toward anyone foolish enough to take the captain's wheel.
XP3: CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN BEES
Let’s make one thing perfectly clear: The island is out to get you. Fireballs, of course. But there’s a whole lot more on the island that will have you running for your life. This smaller expansion introduces two new threats. The crouching tiger introduces a dexterity shot. Place it on the table next to the board, press down, and launch it towards your foes. The hidden bees make up for their smaller size with their swarming numbers. Put all the little yellow marbles into the beehive, pour them through Vul-Kar, and watch the mayhem ensue.
ADD-ON: Add this set of the five pre-painted minatures to enhance your game. Includes four standard player miniatures, as well as The Last Adventurer miniature.
